Tiergarten (Animal Garden in German) is another historic neighbourhood that makes up the new borough of Mitte. Formally part of West Berlin, Tiergarten is named after the large park contained within the district.
This area traditionally served a diplomatic purpose due to the large number of the embassies in the area, but several of these closed after the war. In the last few years, many of these embassies have been renovated and with the revamped Reichstag also in the area, Tiergarten can again claim to be the political heart and soul of Berlin.
For the investor, Tiergarten remains a good solid choice of location and with the renaissance of the Reichstag and the politicians and diplomats moving back, should continue its move upmarket.
