Kreuzberg

South of Mitte, one can find Kreuzberg situated in the new borough of Friedrichshain-Kreuzberg. Kreuzberg is one the more well-known areas of Berlin, famous for its large Turkish population and radical lefty inhabitants. Before the wall came down, Kruezberg was just about isolated from the rest of Berlin, surrounded on three side by the wall. It was also near the wall that Checkpoint Charlie was located. It was this isolation that meant that Kreuzberg was one of the less desirable and cheaper areas of Berlin attracting immigrants who were new to Germany. After the wall came down, Kruezberg is no longer isolated, yet it still remains a poor district.

While the above paints a story of poverty and deprivation, the nicer areas of Kreuberg are home to an increasing number of students, professionals and married couples and the area can no longer be described as a total ghetto.

For the overseas investor, especially those with an eclectic or alternative taste, Kreuzberg represents an interesting place to buy. The housing stock is older than other areas of Berlin meaning you can pick up a bargain property with character.
