  • Only 14% of Berliners are home owners, this compares to 42% in Germany as a whole. It’s 73% in the UK.
  • Property prices in Germany have fallen by 3.2% since 2000, this compares to a 120% increase in the UK.
  • Some areas of Berlin boast pricing as low as £500 per sq m ($1000 per sq m).
  • Berlin real estate is, in general, considerably cheaper than Pragu, Riga or Bratislava.
  • In Berlin, Estate Agent fees are paid for by the buyer, rather than by the seller.

Berlin Facts

  • Berlin is the second largest city in Europe, after London.
  • Berlin is home to the “Love Parade” an annual party famous for its loud rave music and scantily-clad dancers.
  • Berlin zoo is the most visited in Europe, with about 2.5 million annual visitors.
  • The Reichstag building is once again home to the German parliament. It was renovated in 1999 by British architect Norman Foster.
  • The unemployment rate in Berlin is 17.2 per cent compared to Germany’s overall rate of 10.5 per cent
  • The average GDP per capita is only €23,460 in Berlin, compared to the German average of €34,623
  • Berlin has a flourishing graffiti and street art scene.
  • The Berlin Airlift was a joint UK and US operation to supply West Berlin with provisions during the Berlin Blockade of 1948/9.
  • The Berlin Marathon is almost totally flat and therefore one of the fastest courses in the world. The current world record was set here.
